John Gailey's Personal BIO:
I moved to Alaska in 1969 with my parents when my dad returned from Vietnam. I grew up fishing and hunting in some of Alaska's most remote areas, as my dad would take us in our own airplane to these remote and seemingly desolate regions. It was at these times, I grew to appreciate the beauty that is Alaska. Having a father who loved flying, and Alaska, really cemented my love of Alaska.
For 30 years I have traveled all over our great state showing our visitors the hidden treasures that are hidden in the back roads, and byways of the not so beaten path.
Throughout my life I have been fortunate to be involved with many parts of the lore of Alaska. As a trail breaker for Alaska's Iditarod, I experienced the loneliness and beauty of the trail. As a member of a search and rescue team, I experienced the unforgiving nature that is also Alaska. Yet, while out in the far reaches of Alaska's bush, I always marvel at the mountains, the people, the animals, "... oh God how I'm stuck on it all". Winter will usually find me on a snowmobile, traveling in some very remote reaches; thinking back on a time when one would be afoot traveling through areas uncharted, wondering if this area too is uncharted.
2007 marked my 1378th trip over the incredible Alaska Highway. I could think of no better way to celebrate this milestone than with guests, and friends who share the adventure of the "Trail of '42".
Alaska...
"...there's a land (have you seen it?) It's the cussedest land that I know, from the big dizzy mountains that screen it, to the deep deathlike valleys below. Some say God was tired when he made it; some say it's a fine land to shun; Maybe, but there's some as would trade it for no land on Earth - and I'm one." "The Spell of the Yukon"- Robert W. Service
