22 Day Alaska/Canadian Rockies

This Alaska dream vacation encompasses a drive through the breathtaking Canadian Rockies and Banff National Park, continuing north on the historic Alaska Highway to Fairbanks, touring Denali along the way, and then a cruise down the coast to view beautiful glaciers and the coastal cities of Sitka, Juneau, and Ketchikan.

DAY 1: SEATTLE
You will begin your Alaska dream vacation with a flight to the Emerald City, Seattle, Washington. Our staff will greet you at the airport and you'll be transferred to your hotel. You'll have the rest of the day to explore the surrounding area or just relax.

DAY 2:  LEAVENWORTH
Your day begins with a group breakfast with your Tour Manager. Afterwards you will enjoy a visit to the Seattle waterfront and Pike Street Market, where you will have a chance to sample local fare for lunch. Then you'll cross Lake Washington on a floating bridge to begin your scenic drive over the Cascade Mountains to your evening destination- the quaint Bavarian Village of Leavenworth. You will have the afternoon and evening free to explore this unique village.

DAY 3:  REVELSTOKE, BRITISH COLUMBIA
This morning you will enter into the drier region of Washington State where you will see many fruit trees and vineyards, as well as the lifeblood of the area, the mighty Columbia River. Continue north to the Canadian border, entering the Okanagan Lake area of British Columbia. By this afternoon you will be gaining in elevation again as you make your way into Revelstoke, British Columbia in the Selkirk Mountains.

DAY 4:  BANFF
LEaving Revelstoke, you'll climb to the 4,347 foot summit of Roger's Pass, before descending to the town of Golden. You'll ascend again through rugged mountain terrain to the Continental Divide at Kicking Horse Pass before visiting spectacular Lake Louise and Moraine Lake nestled high in the Canadian Rockies. After lunch you'll continue on to Banff, the largest town in Banff National Park.

DAY 5:  JASPER NATIONAL PARK
Today you're off for another day of spectacular scenery as you travel the Icefield's Parkway. Bow Lake, Peyto Lake, and Athabasca Falls are just some of the highlights of the day. You'll ride a snow coach on the Athabasca Glacier where you can get out and walk on ice that is thousands of years old. This evening you'll fall in love with the beautiful mountain town of Jasper, Alberta.

DAY 6:  GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALBERTA
Free time this morning will allow you to experience more of the town of Jasper. Maybe you'll take the tram to the top of the mountain, or spend some time exploring the town. After lunch, you'll travel north on the Bighorn Highway to Grande Prairie, Alberta for the evening. Be on the lookout for mountain sheep and elk as you leave Jasper. Tomorrow it's on to the Alaska Highway!

DAY 7:  FORT NELSON
A short drive from Grande Prairie brings us to Dawson Creek, "Mile O" of the great Alaska Highway. You will spend the next six days traveling over 1500 miles of highway considered to by many to be one of North America's greatest engineering feats. Tonight you will call Fort Nelson home.

DAY 8:  MUNCHO LAKE
Before departing Fort Nelson this morning, you will enjoy a visit to the local For Nelson Historical Museum. On our journey through Stone Mountain Provincial Park and into beautiful Muncho Lake, keep your eyes open for the numerous wildlife species that make this area home. After a German style lunch, enjoy the afternoon at your leisure in this beautiful mountain lake setting.

DAY 9:   WHITEHORSE
During today's continued adventure up the Alaska Highway you will visit Watson Lake and the famed "Sign Forest". This landmark is home to more than 65,000 signs from all corners of North America. This afternoon you will continue routing into the capital and Klondike city of Whitehorse, your home for the next two evenings.

DAY 10:  WHITEHORSE & SKAGWAY
Today our attnetion turns to the gold rush era of 1898. After a morning stop in the historic city of Carcross you will board the "White Pass & Yukon Route" steam traim for a breathtaking ride and visit to Skagway, Alaska. You will have the afternoon to explore the gateway to the Klondike before heading back north ofr your second evening in Whitehorse.

DAY 11: BEAVER CREEK
A short drive from Whitehorse and you will find yourself in Haines Junction, home to the Village Bakery and more homemade goodies. As you depart Haines Junction you will travel along the border of wildlife rich Kluane National Park, with a stop in Burwash Landing. Tonight your tummies will be filled with good times as we participate in the "Rendezvous Dinner Show ".

DAY 12:  FAIRBANKS
As you depart Beaver Creek the skies over Alaska can be seen through the front window of your motorcoach. Our first stop on this very busy day will be at the international border to bid farewell to Canada as your tour brings you to the doorstep of our 49th state. This afternoon you will venture through Big Delta Historical Park, Rika's Roadhouse, and your first glace at the remarkable Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Fairbanks and the Alpine Lodge with be your home for the next two nights.

DAY 13:  FAIRBANKS
After a hotel breakfast you are off for a day full of adventure, starting with a trip down Discovery Lane. It is here you will board the Riverboat Discovery for a relaxing and fully narrated three hour boat ride down the Chena and Tanana Rivers. This afternoon you will partake in a very special and exclusive luncheon with Trail Breaker Kennels located at the home of the late dog mushing champion, Susan Butcher. Later today you will continue your tour of The Golden Heart City with a visit to the Museum of the North located at the University of Alaska. Tonight it's a real Alaska salmon bake with a show to follow at the Palace Theater.

DAY 14:  DENALI NATIONAL PARK & ALASKA RAILROAD
This morning we will board the legendary Alaska Railroad's luxury dome cars for a four hour trip into Denali National Park. With it's many lavish appointments and GoldStar service, the Alaska Railroad has set the bar high in terms of quality. A delicious breakfast will be served in the dining room on the lower floor of your rail car. A free afternoon in Denali is available for optional rafting, helicopter or hiking tours in and around Alaska's most well known national park. If it's a little extra rest you're looking for, you might choose to spend the afternoon relaxing while overlooking the Nenana River from your private balcony at the Grizzly Bear Resort. Tonight we dine while enjoying the entertainment of the "Cabin Nite" dinner show.

DAY 15:  DENALI NATIONAL PARK
Grab your camera and get ready to venture into Denali National Park on a 6-8 hour Tundra Wilderness Tour this morning. While you explore the vast expanse of the great park be on the look out for moose, bears, Dall sheep, caribou and wolves! You will have added opportunity to see the south face of the mountain as we travel south towards Anchorage.

DAY 16:  KENAI PENINSULA & SEWARD
AK100- Jun 14
(Sailing at 8pm) Today's schedule will take you from the amazing mountains of the Alaska Range, through the bustling city of Anchorage and out onto the fabulous Kenai Peninsula. During your drive to Seward you will travel along Turnagain Arm, home to one of the largest tidal fluctuations in the entire world. Upon arrival in Seward, your John Hall's Cruise Manager will assist you with the embarkation process of the ms Statendam as well as host meetings and tours while onboard.

DAY 17:  COLLEGE FJORDS
Early this morning your cruise ship sails into the waters of Prince William Sound and stunning College Fjord. This fjord is home to over twenty glaciers that flow over the land like frozen waterfalls, of which 5 are tidewater. Each glacier is named after an elite college such as Harvard, Yale Dartmouth and Amherst. After sailing out of the sound your personal Cruise Manager will host an orientation and tour of the luxury liner.

In College Fjord: 6am-9am
DAY 18:  GLACIER BAY NATIONAL PARK
With snow capped mountains and giant fjords on both sides of your ship, today may very well be the most stunning day of scenic cruising on any itinerary world wide. Two park rangers will board your vessel as you creep at a pace of two knots through these icy waters. The gigantic tidewater glaciers of Reid, Lamplugh, Johns Hopkins, & Margerie will leave you in awe of Mother Nature's majesty.

In Glacier Bay: 10am-7pm
DAY 19:  HAINES
On the shores of the Lynn Canal you will find the port of Haines. The community offers a rich history of native and military works, all of which can be explored deeper at the Sheldon Museum. Opportunities for wildlife viewing and adventure programs are offered through the cruise line. You also have the ability to take the ferry across the canal to the city of Skagway where you may make a trip on the renowned White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, a highly reccommended excursion.

In Haines: 6:30am-9pm
DAY 20:  JUNEAU
A full day in Juneau, the capital city, offers many attractions to experience. Try glacier helicopter-flying, glacier-trekking, or a 4-hour wildlife quest where whales, sea lions and marine life are abundant. Don't forget to visit the "Red Dog Saloon" or Alaska's oldest Russain church, St. Nicholas Cathedral.

In Sitka: 8am-6pm
DAY 21: KETCHIKAN
Known as the "Salmon Capital" of Alaska and the first city from those traveling form the south, this vibrant seaside community offers a number of adventures for its visitors. Flightseeing to beautiful Misty Fjords is a popular even for many. Others may elect to keep their feet on the ground and visit the totem displays of Saxman Village & Totem Bight Park. If you are exploring on your own, the historic Creek Street District is a must and the Southeast Discovery Lands Center is well worth the cost of admission.

In Ketchikan: 2pm-8pm
DAY 22:  CRUISING THE INSIDE PASSAGE
Tidal waters permitting, your ship will hug the coastlines of Alaska and stunning British Columbia. The scenery offered by the Inside Passage is far different from that found in other cruise destinations around the globe. Keep an eye open for whales, orcas and dolphins during your day at sea.

DAY 23:  VANCOUVER & FLY HOME
As dawn breaks on the harbor, your vessel will sail under the Lions Gate Bridge and dock at Canada Place Pier. This marks a time for good-byes and well wishes to all of those new friendships that have developed during your dream Alaska vacation. After the disembarkation process is completed you'll pass through Canadian customs before being transferred to the Vancouver or Seattle airport to board your flight bound for home.
