12 Day Denali & 1898 Gold Trail- Northbound

Journey back in time to discover the wonder of Alaska and the Klondike!
Juneau, Tracy Arm and the Twin Sawyer Glaciers will highlight your 4 day cruise through Alaska's Inside Passage. Follow the route used by those looking to get rich quick as you explore Skagway, the Klondike and Dawson City. Learn about the Iditarod and native cultures in Fairbanks. Travel to Kantishna which lies deep within Denali National Park and have more opportunities to see wildlife with this exciting and historical tour.

DAY 1:  VANCOUVER B.C.
(5:00 p.m. Sailing) Today it's off to the Pacific Northwest and the great city of Vancouver. Upon arrival, you will be met by the World Wide Shore Service representatives who will assist you in your transfer to the marvelous ms Volendam. After embarkation, take a moment to exhale as you prepare for a journey that will lead you through the best of Alaska, the Inside Passage and the Yukon Territory of Canada.

DAY 2:  INSIDE PASSAGE CRUISING
Tidal waters permitting, your ship will hug the coastlines of Alaska and stunning British Columbia. The scenery offered by the Inside Passage is far different from that found in other cruise destinations around the globe. Keep an eye open for whales, orcas and dolphins during your day at sea.

DAY 3:  JUNEAU / TRACY ARM & TWIN SAWYER GLACIER
As mountain goats watch from high above and waterfalls pour off the mountains around you, your cruise ship enters into the 26 mile long fjord of Tracy Arm. Over the next few hours you will sail through one of Alaska's most dramatic waterways. You'll view awesome works of nature, including calving ice from the face of the Twim Sawyer Glaciers. You will have many options in the capital city today.  You may tour the Mendenhall Glacier, the Glacier Gardens, enjoy a city tour with a visit to the salmon hatchery or a scenic trip to the top of Mt Roberts on the aerial tram. For the adventure seekers, try a flight to the glaciers and a real dog sled experience across snow packed surfaces or a glacier trek where you will walk on the glaciers of Alaska

DAY 4:  SKAGWAY / WHITEHORSE
Land Tour Starts ....AK151- Jul 11 ....AK 153- Aug 8
Upon arrival this morning in Skagway you will disembark the lovely ms Volendam and join the Skagway Street Car Co. for a city tour of the historic "Gateway to the Klondike". After some free time to explore and enjoy lunch, you will board a private rail car on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad. This famed railway will carry you up the White Pass; otherwise known as "The Deadhorse Trail". You will climb over 2500 feet to the summit before descending into Fraser, British Columbia, where your John Hall's Alaska deluxe motorcoach and Tour Manager will greet you. From here you'll enjoy a scenic drive into Carcross, yukon Territory and into Whitehorse for the evening. Tonight you will enjoy a production of comedy and song at the Frantic Follies.

DAY 5: THE KLONDIKE HIGHWAY & DAWSON CITY
Your schedule today takes you deeper into gold country as we continue north on the "Trail of "98". A short drive out of Whitehorse will find you at the Braeburn Lodge. The smell of delicious homemade cinnamon rolls fills the air so be sure to bring your appetite along. When our story continues it's on to Five Finger Rapids, Minto Landing and then Moose Creek Lodge for an afternoon refreshment break. Keep your camera at the ready as we plan a number of photo stops before our arrival into Dawson City, your home for the next two evenings.

DAY 6:  DAWSON CITY
You are in the heart of gold country today, a place where the spirits of legendary "Sourdoughs" like Tagish Charlie, Skookum Jim, and George W. Carmack still pan the creeks for the sparkling gold deposits that turned this into a boomtown in 1898. Your adventures today will take you to the Midnight Dome, Gold Dredge #4 and Discovery Claim. Tonight you will have the option of visiting the oldest gaming hall in Canada, Diamond Tooth Gertie's Casino.

DAY 7: TOP OF THE WORLD HIGHWAY & FAIRBANKS
To begin our departure from Dawson City we must first board the George Black Ferry and cross the mighty Yukon River. Then it's on to the Top of the World Highway for a 79 mile journey atop one of the most dramatic roadways in all of North America. Before a lunch stop in Tok, we will make a visit to the busy metropolis of Chicken, Alaska (pop.37). This afternoon we join the Alaska Highway again as we make our way north to Fairbanks and the Alpine Lodge, our accommodations for the next two nights.

DAY 8:  FAIRBANKS
An Alaskan style breakfast is in order this morning before you gear up for one of your busiest days on tour. Your day begins with a 3 hour riverboat ride on the waters of the Chena and Tanana Rivers. Your fully narrated tour aboard the mv Discovery will give you a clear look at yesteryear and the pioneering lifestyle that so many relate to in Alaska. This afternoon you will enjoy a very special luncheon at Trail Breaker Kennel, home to the late dog mushing champion, Susan Butcher. After lunch, a visit to the Museum of the North will enlighten you even further on the natural history and culture of this great land. Tonight we are off to the Alaska Salmon Bake followed by a show at the Palace Theater.

DAY 9:  DENALI NATIONAL PARK
This morning we will board the legendary Alaska Railroad's luxury dome cars for a four hour trip into Denali National Park. With it's many lavish appointments and GoldStar service, the Alaska Railroad has set the bar high in terms of quality. A delicious breakfast will be served in the dining room on the lower floor of your rail car. Upon arrival in Denali National Park, guests will enjoy lunch before boarding a State Mandated Backcountry Lodge bus for a 95-mile wildlife viewing excursion that will take them back to Kantishna. It is here that guests will find a true wilderness.

DAY 10:  DENALI NATIONAL PARK/ WONDER LAKE & KANTISHNA
Today is free for guests to explore the world surrounding Kantishna. Consider going for a hike or trying your luck at gold panning. There are flight seeing tours to take and mountain bikes available for your use. The Backcountry lodge also have plenty of places to just relax, play a board game and have some tea or hot chocolate.

DAY 11:   DENALI NATIONAL PARK & ANCHORAGE
Birhgt and early you will begin your 5-6 hour wildlife tour to the borders of Denali National Park. You will again have the chance to see wolves, bears, moose and caribou. From Denali you will make your way down the George Parks highway. You will visit the beautiful Veteran's Memorial and make designated picture stops at south viewpoints of the Alaska Range and Mt. McKinley. Before arriving Anchorage and getting settled into your accommodations for the evening, you will visit Wasilla and the Iditarod Headquarters.

DAY 12:   ANCHORAGE & FLIGHT HOME / OR EXTEND YOUR TOUR
12 days have already passed since your dream Alaska/Yukon adventure began. You have developed wonderful new friendships and many fond memories of our 49th state along the journey. Today however, you say your farewells to your traveling companions and the north as you fly south with the aspiration of returning to the "Great Land" again!
